MORE DOCTORS ARE HOSPITAL EMPLOYEES

According to a recent study by the American Medical Association, for the first time ever more physicians are employed by hospitals versus having private practices of their own. Since 1983, there has been a gradual shift by doctors away from owning a practice. As with anything else, it all boils down to cost. Health insurers pay more for routine patient visits when they occur in a hospital-owned practice versus an independent clinic despite the services being exactly the same.
