HEALTH FIRM TAPS AI TO UNDERTAKE LONELINESS EPIDEMIC

Los Angeles-based healthcare consulting firm Catasys — which contracts with insurers across the US — updated its OnTrak program with an AI-enabled capability to help identify and tailor treatment for loneliness, a pervasive social issue that breeds a slew of health issues.

Why This Matters: Over one-third of adults ages 45 and up are lonely, Time reports. And social isolation is linked with the development of conditions like depression and high blood pressure, as well as heart disease, which hit the US with $190 billion in costs annually.
