In collaboration with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), members of Congress unveiled a pilot program that’ll boost telehealth access to Medicare members with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) — a move that could spark improved outcomes and mitigate costs.
Why This Matters: Medicare paid 51%of the $32 billion COPD cost the US in 2010, per the CDC. And these costs are projected to climb to $49 billion by 2020.
What Next?: As the US senior population balloons, the CMS will likely turn to telehealth as a way to augment health outcomes and curb costs.
