41 NEW MEASLES CASES CONFIRMED IN U.S., TOTAL REACHES 880

According to new numbers released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention today, the total number of active measles cases for the year has grown to 880. This number includes 41 new cases that have shown up. Oklahoma was newly added to the list of states with cases, now totaling 24. Meanwhile, New York has reported more than 700 cases since the start of 2019.

Deep Dive: States are getting involved. Connecticut and Maine are working on measures to prevent parents from opting out of vaccinating their children. In Washington, Governor Jay Inslee signed a bill in which parents can no longer cite personal or ideological reasons for exempting their child from being vaccinated.
