ALPHABET'S VERILY AND NC-BASED MEDICAL CENTER PARTNER FOR RESEARCH ON AGING

The Alphabet-backed health company will leverage its product development know-how to assist researchers at Wake Forest Baptist Health in testing health interventions aimed at improving physical and cognitive independence of aging individuals. The companies say their focus is on empowering aging individuals to remain in their homes. And aside from improving the patient experience, a more independent senior population could lead to significantly lower costs of care throughout the US healthcare system: The total cost of home healthcare in the US is projected to climb 7% annually from $103 billion in 2018 to $173 billion in 2026, per the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
